Renewable Energy Calculators

Solar and wind energy production, capacity factor, renewable share, payback and carbon savings.

Key renewable energy formulas

Solar Panel Outputdaily kWh = array kWp × peak sun hours × derate factor
Wind PowerP = ½ρAv³ × Cp × efficiency
Energy Savingssaving = current use × reduction % × rate
Solar Paybackpayback = install cost ÷ annual saving (with escalation and degradation)
Solar BatterykWh = evening use × days ÷ DoD ÷ round-trip efficiency
Capacity Factorcapacity factor = actual output ÷ (rated capacity × hours)
Renewable Percentageshare = renewable ÷ total × 100
Carbon Savingskg CO₂ = kWh × grid carbon intensity ÷ 1000
Solar System SizekWp = target kWh ÷ (sun hours × 365 × derate)

Renewable Energy questions

What are peak sun hours?

The number of hours per day equivalent to full 1,000 W/m² sunshine. It bundles the whole day’s irradiation into one number.

Why does doubling the wind speed give eight times the power?

Power depends on velocity cubed — 2³ = 8. That is why a windy site beats a bigger turbine on a calm one.
