Formula
grid kWh = distance ÷ 100 × efficiency ÷ (1 − charging losses)
Worked example
Using the values pre-filled in the calculator above:
- Annual distance = 15,000 km
- Efficiency = 18 kWh/100km
- Charging losses = 10 %
- Household electricity without the car = 3,500 kWh/year
- Electricity rate per kWh = 0.12
the calculator returns:
- Annual electricity for the car: 3,000 kWh
- Energy used at the wheels: 2,700 kWh
- Charging losses: 300 kWh
