About the EV Charging Cost Calculator
Charging cost depends on battery size, how much you are adding, charging losses and your tariff. Home charging on an off-peak rate is typically a quarter of the price of a rapid public charger, which is why the tariff field matters more than the car.
Also known as: ev charge cost, electric car charging price, cost to charge electric car, home charging cost.
How to use this calculator
- Enter battery capacity, charge from, charge to, electricity rate per kwh and the other fields.
- The result updates instantly as you type — press Calculate (or Enter) at any time.
- Review the breakdown shown under the main result.
- Use Copy result or Share to save the answer or send a link with your inputs.
Formula
cost = battery × charge added ÷ efficiency × rate
Worked example
Using the values pre-filled in the calculator above:
- Battery capacity = 60 kWh
- Charge from = 20 %
- Charge to = 80 %
- Electricity rate per kWh = 0.09
- Charging efficiency = 90 %
- Charges per month = 12
the calculator returns:
- Cost per charge: 3.6
- Energy added to the battery: 36 kWh
- Energy drawn from the grid: 40 kWh
- Monthly cost: 43.2
