Formula
Pre-tax = total ÷ (1 + rate)
Worked example
Using the values pre-filled in the calculator above:
- Price including tax = 118
- Tax rate = 18 %
the calculator returns:
- Pre-tax price: 100
- Tax included: 18
Working
118 ÷ (1 + 18/100) = 100
Tips & common mistakes
- Do not simply subtract the tax rate from the total: 18% of 118 is 21.24, but the tax included is only 18.
