Tax = (sale − cost basis) × rate
Worked example
Using the values pre-filled in the calculator above:
- Purchase price (incl. fees) = 20,000
- Sale price (after fees) = 32,000
- Holding period: Long-term
- Long-term rate = 15 %
- Short-term rate = 24 %
