About the Flooring Calculator
Flooring is sold by the pack, and every pack covers a fixed area. Measure the room, add a cutting allowance — more for diagonal or herringbone layouts — and divide by the pack coverage. This calculator does that and adds underlay, beading and the cost so you can order in one go.

How to use this calculator
- Measure the room at its widest points.
- Choose the layout — diagonal and herringbone need more offcuts.
- Enter the coverage printed on the pack.
- Buy one extra pack to keep for future repairs.
Formula
packs = area × (1 + waste) ÷ coverage per pack
Worked example
Using the values pre-filled in the calculator above:
- Room shape: Rectangular
- Room length = 5 m
- Room width = 4 m
- Layout: Straight — 8% waste
- Coverage per pack = 2.22 m²
- Price per pack = 25
the calculator returns:
- Packs required: 10
- Floor area: 20 m²
- Area with waste: 21.6 m²
- Underlay rolls (15 m²): 2
