Formula
RPM = 1000 × Vc / (π × D)
Worked example

- Drill diameter = 10 mm
- Material: Mild steel (30 m/min)
- Hole depth = 25 mm

Tips & common mistakes
- Halve the speed for a pilot-free hole in stainless.
- Use cutting fluid on anything above about 6 mm in steel.
