About the Plant Spacing Calculator
Plant spacing decides both yield and health: too close and they compete and get disease, too far and you waste ground. A triangular (offset) layout fits about 15% more plants into the same area than a square grid at the same spacing.

Formula
plants = (usable length ÷ spacing + 1) × (usable width ÷ row spacing + 1)
Worked example
Using the values pre-filled in the calculator above:
- Bed length = 4 m
- Bed width = 1.2 m
- Plant spacing = 30 cm
- Row spacing = 40 cm
- Layout: Square grid
- Edge margin = 10 cm
