Frequently asked questions

What is a healthy BMI?

For adults, 18.5–24.9 is considered a healthy range, 25–29.9 overweight and 30+ obese. Children and teenagers use age- and sex-specific percentiles instead.

Is BMI accurate for athletes?

Not always. BMI cannot tell muscle from fat, so athletes often score “overweight” despite low body fat. Combine it with waist measurements or body-fat percentage.
