About the Electrical Load Calculator

Total connected load, demand load and current draw for a panel or circuit.

Also known as: panel load calculator, connected load, demand factor, circuit load calculator.

How to use this calculator

  1. Enter lighting load, socket / receptacle load, fixed appliance load, largest motor load and the other fields.
  2. The result updates instantly as you type — press Calculate (or Enter) at any time.
  3. Review the breakdown shown under the main result.
  4. Use Copy result or Share to save the answer or send a link with your inputs.

Formula

Demand = connected load × demand factor + 25% of the largest motor

Worked example

Using the values pre-filled in the calculator above:

  • Lighting load = 1,200 W
  • Socket / receptacle load = 3,000 W
  • Fixed appliance load = 6,000 W
  • Largest motor load = 2,200 W
  • Demand factor = 70 %
  • Supply voltage = 230 V
  • Power factor = 0.95

the calculator returns:

  • Demand load: 9.23 kW
  • Connected load: 12.4 kW
  • Design current: 42.24 A
  • Suggested breaker: 55 A
