About the Brick Calculator
Brick counts come from wall area divided by the area each brick covers including its mortar joint. This calculator handles any brick size and joint thickness, deducts openings, adds a breakage allowance, and works out the mortar, sand and cement to go with it.

Formula
bricks = wall area ÷ (brick length + joint) × (brick height + joint)
Worked example
Using the values pre-filled in the calculator above:
- Wall length = 10 m
- Wall height = 2.4 m
- Wall thickness: Half brick (single skin)
- Brick size: UK standard 215 × 65 mm
- Mortar joint = 10 mm
- Openings area = 2 m²
- Breakage allowance = 5 %
- Price per brick = 0.6
the calculator returns:
- Bricks required: 1,369
- Bricks per m² (single skin): 118.5
- Net wall area: 22 m²
